The Darker the Hour, the Brighter the Fireflies

After a chance meeting in a coffee shop, Will Harrison and I are excited to be releasing our debut single ‘Send in the Fireflies’ on 11th December, hopefully bringing a little light to what has been the toughest of years. It is written and performed by me (melody, lyrics and vocals) and Will (ambient piano and backing track) and it is mixed by Grammy award winner Ruadhri Cushnan.

We used the opportunity of lockdown 2020, to reconnect with each other and make music from miles apart. The healing power of nature helped inspire the melody and lyrics. Will laid down the beautiful piano backing, up in the romantic landscape of the Lake District, and I created the melody and lyrics in the ‘Heart of England Forest’. Inspired by magical fireflies bringing light into darkness and using light as their attraction to find their partner. I thought, it was a perfect metaphor for light out of darkness, just what we need right now. 2020 has been a tough year; I was at an epic Glastonbury in 2019 and due to be there again for the 50th Glastonbury in June 2020, but sadly it was cancelled. The fireflies reminded me of the lights from all the phones being held up in front of the Pyramid Stage it gave such a feeling of connection and togetherness.

‘Send in the Fireflies’, has just featured on BBC Introducing, where DJ Brody Swain exclaimed “What a voice!”. Exciting feedback, though it made me blush! And by the way, our follow up single ‘A Chance to Miss You’ is released on 18th December. More information to come!

Stay tuned, love, Hannah X
